How the due date is worked out
Payment terms normally run in calendar days from the day the invoice is dated. Take an invoice dated March 1 on Net 30: it is due on March 31. Weekends and public holidays count as normal days unless your agreement says otherwise.
Common payment terms
- Due on receipt: payment is expected on the day the invoice is issued.
- Net 7, Net 10, Net 15: the customer has 7, 10 or 15 days from the invoice date to pay.
- Net 30: a widely used term; payment is due 30 days after the invoice date.
- Net 45, Net 60, Net 90: longer terms, due 45, 60 or 90 days after the invoice date.
- EOM (end of month): the due date is the last calendar day of the month of the invoice.
- Net 30 EOM: due 30 days after the last day of the month the invoice is dated in.
The exact meaning of EOM terms can differ between businesses, so check the wording of your agreement.
If the due date is a Saturday or Sunday
Some companies move a Saturday or Sunday due date to the next working day. Tick the weekend option to move a Saturday or Sunday due date to the following Monday.
